Pop-Rock Candy Mountain: Because Life Doesn’t Write Itself

  • Mitt Romney: He has officially endorsed John McCain. Now, if only that pesky Mike Huckabee would do the same.
  • Tupelo Symphony Orchestra: They will be performing American Music, American Voices tonight at the Link Centre. Jack Reed Sr. will be the guest speaker. More information can be found at the Link Centre online.
  • 11th Annual Magnolia Independent Film Festival: The state’s oldest film festival continues tonight ad tomorrow at Hollywood Premiere Cinema in Starkville. Local film maker Daniel Lee will be showing his film Memphis Zombie Attack: The Documentary tonight. Read more about Lee and his film in Pop-Rock Candy Mountain later today.
  • Blue Mountain: America’s favorite band from Oxford will be performing tonight at the Hi-Tone in Memphis. Ticket information can be found here.
  • Gretchen Wilson: The female member of the Musik Mafia will be performing tonight at Gold Strike Casino in Tunica. For more information, call 1-888-245-7529.
  • Bobby “Blue” Bland: The blues legend will be joining Shirley Brown, J. Blackfoot and others tonight for a Blues Bash at Sam’s Town Casino in Tunica. For more information, click here.
  • Saturday Morning Show With Kay Bain: My favorite morning program is only a day away! Thank goodness for my DVR. This week’s special guest will be the Kevin Waide Project, who will also be playing the Boondocks Grill Saturday night.
  • Aretha vs Beyonce vs Beyonce’s Dad: “Hey 19, that’s Aretha Franklin. She don’t remember the Queen of Soul…”
  • LOST (ABC): The fourth member of the Oceanic Six? Syid. Jack admits that, after 100 days, he misses baseball.
  • Jane Fonda: She let one “slip” on Today. But the worst part is that she’s 70 and starring in the Vagina Monologues. Ewwwww….
  • Dale Earnhardt Jr.: The NASCAR driver finished first in his qualifying competition, his second in two races for Hendrick Motorsports, his new team. Also, Danny Hamlin won in a foreign car for the first time in a long time. His car? A Toyota.
  • Make-A-Wish Grant Writing: The Make-A -Wish Foundation will be holding a seminar on how to write grants for the non-profit organization at the Link Centre on Saturday. More information on the seminar can be found here.
  • Dexter (CBS): The sublime Showtime series comes to network TV on Sunday.
  • Adrienne Shelly: The slain actress/director’s killer (read: murderer) was given a reduced sentence as his charges were dropped to first degree manslaughter. Shelley made on of my favorite movies of 2007 , Waitress. It breaks my heart every time I watch it.
  • Survivor: Micronesia (CBS): Fan Mary was voted out at Tribal Council. The real question is when is Survivor going to get voted off? It is so boring that I doubt if I will be able to make it through the whole season.
  • Dick Rice: No Dick Rice sightings today. One time my band played on the Mornin’ Show and Meteorologist John Dolusic said we “sounded like Blind Melon.” That was awesome. Here’s the mighty Chicago. Have a great weekend!

Paul Thorn Tupelo native Paul Thorn returns to town Thursday night with a show at the Lyric Theater. His new video,A Long Way From Tupelo, is currently playing on GAC and a limited edition of his album of the same name will be available at the show. For more information, go to http://www.paulthorn.com/ 1. First, I have to say, Bluebell Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream. I try keep it down to one heaping bowl full a week since it's full of saturated fats and I'm a 43 year old trying to keep up the image of a front man. BUT, sometimes I'm weak and I backslide. 2. My Six Million Dollar Man Pinball machine. I finally got it fixed and have been playing it a lot. My 4 year old is learning how to play it so we get to play it together. 3. Saturday mornings, I get up and watch Kay Bain. I've been a loyal WTVA viewer for many years but I get a little upset because they've cut Kay down to just being on once a week. I love Kay Bain. You know, my coffee just tastes better with Kay Bain. 4. I've recently thrown out my old socks. I went to Wal-mart and bought a 12-pack of brand new white socks. I got them all for about eight bucks so I've been really happy about that. 5. My 14 year old daughter, Kit has become a facination. I've always been all about my daughter but now she's coming out with this Aretha Franklin style, powerful voice and I've just been amazed. I love listening to her sing.
